3M Company Recalls 53,634 Scotch Thermal Laminators Over Overheating And Fire Hazard

Product Recall

3M Company is recalling approximately 53,634 Scotch Thermal Laminators after the devices were found to overheat and pose a fire hazard. The recall was announced October 15, 2026. 3M has received 63 reports of the laminators smoking, melting, or overheating — including 5 that caught fire and one incident causing minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. The laminators were sold exclusively on Amazon.com.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers the Scotch Thermal Laminator, model number TL132Z, a white tabletop laminator approximately 14 inches wide. The model number is printed on the bottom of the laminator and on the product packaging. The laminators were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from June 2024 through September 2026 for between $44 and $56.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The recalled laminators can overheat during use, causing the unit to smoke, melt, or catch fire. The device reaches high temperatures during normal operation to laminate documents — when the internal components malfunction, those temperatures can exceed safe limits and ignite surrounding materials. Five units have caught fire. Laminators are commonly used in home offices and classrooms and may be left unattended during lamination cycles.
