529 Commerce, LLC of Parkland, Florida, is recalling 3,860 units of its Rooted in Rare brand Aquafaba Powder after a consumer reported an allergic reaction following consumption of the product, which may contain undeclared egg. The recall was announced July 29, 2026. The recall is particularly notable because aquafaba powder is specifically marketed as an egg-free cooking ingredient, a chickpea-liquid-based substitute used by vegans and those with egg allergies to replace eggs in baking and cooking. No additional adverse events have been reported.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers Rooted in Rare Aquafaba Powder in two sizes: 4 oz (113g) flexible foil pouches (UPC 199284530959) and 12 oz (340g) flexible foil pouches (UPC 199284306226). Two best-by dates are included in the recall, printed on a sticker on the back bottom left of the package: best by 12/14/2026 and best by 12/12/2027. The recalled products were distributed through Amazon.com and directly to customers via rootedinrare.com nationwide between June 2025 and July 2026.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
529 Commerce initiated the recall after a consumer reported an allergic reaction after consuming the product. Investigation revealed the product may contain egg — an undeclared allergen that does not appear on the label. Egg is one of the nine major food allergens under federal law. The presence of egg in a product marketed specifically as an egg-free alternative is particularly dangerous because consumers with egg allergies purchase aquafaba powder precisely to avoid egg exposure. The company states it has terminated its relationship with the supplier responsible for the contamination.
What Should You Do?
If you purchased Rooted in Rare Aquafaba Powder on Amazon or directly from rootedinrare.com and have an egg allergy or sensitivity, do not use the product. Check the UPC and best-by date against those listed above. Discard the product and request a refund through Amazon.com or contact 529 Commerce directly at 1-888-693-1013 or [email protected], Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST.
