The FDA has upgraded an existing peanut butter recall to Class II status after Ventura Foods LLC discovered possible plastic contamination during manufacturing, affecting over 23,000 cases distributed across 40 states.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall affects 23,435 cases of single-serve peanut butter products manufactured by Ventura Foods LLC. The affected items include small peanut butter packets and cups containing both peanut butter and jelly, sold mainly under private-label brands.
Recalled products include:
- Creamy peanut butter in .75-oz, .5-oz, and 1.12-oz packages (Brand names: Flavor Fresh, House Recipe Creamy, Katy’s Kitchen)
- Creamy peanut butter and grape jelly in 2.12-oz packages (Brand name: Poco Pac)
- Creamy peanut butter and strawberry jam in 2.12-oz packages (Brand name: Poco Pac)
The products were distributed to 40 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Why Were These Products Recalled?
Ventura Foods LLC initiated the voluntary recall in April 2025 after discovering pieces of blue plastic in a production filter. The company issued the recall out of an abundance of caution in case any peanut butter products were contaminated with plastic pieces.
On February 12, 2026, the FDA updated the recall designation to Class II, meaning use of the affected products “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
What Should You Do?
The recall was originally issued in April 2025 and was upgraded to Class II status on February 12, 2026. While no formal press release with consumer instructions has been issued at this time, you should not consume any of these peanut butter products.
If you believe you purchased any of the recalled single-serve peanut butter packets or PB&J cups with the affected brand names, it’s safest to throw them away immediately. Check your pantry, desk drawers, or anywhere you might store single-serve condiment packets for these products.
