Weber Recalls Over 3.2 Million Metal Wire Grill Brushes Over Ingestion and Injury Hazard

Product Recall

Weber-Stephen Products LLC has recalled approximately 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes after reports that small wire bristles can detach, stick to grill grates or food, and be accidentally swallowed—causing serious internal injuries that may require surgery. The recall was announced February 26, 2026, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Weber has received at least 38 reports of bristles detaching, including four cases in which consumers swallowed wire bristles and required medical treatment to remove them from their throat or digestive tract.

What’s Being Recalled?

Six models of Weber metal wire bristle grill brushes are included, with plastic or wood handles ranging from 12 to 21 inches. The model number is printed on the product packaging. Affected models are:

Weber Grill Brush Model 6278 – 18″ black plastic handle with red ring, sold 2021–2026.

Weber Grill Brush Model 6494 – 12″ black plastic handle with black ring, sold 2013–2021.

The brushes were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, as well as on Amazon and Weber.com, from 2011 through 2026 for between $10 and $17. Products have also been found on resale sites such as eBay.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The metal wire bristles in these brushes can loosen and detach during use, adhering to grill grates or food without being noticed. If accidentally swallowed, the bristles can puncture or lacerate the throat, esophagus, or digestive tract—potentially requiring surgery to remove them. The hazard applies to all six affected models regardless of age or condition.
