Schreiber Foods, Inc. of Green Bay, Wisconsin, is voluntarily recalling 144 cases of Einstein Bros. Bagels Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread after discovering a mislabeling error that caused the product to be sold in cups incorrectly labeled as Plain, concealing the presence of almonds. The recall was announced March 27, 2026. People with a tree nut allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. No illnesses have been reported to date.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recalled product is Einstein Bros. Bagels Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread, sold in 6-ounce plastic cups at Einstein Bros. Bagels retail locations. The specific identifying feature of the recalled product is a mismatch between the lid and the cup: the lid is correctly labeled “Honey Almond,” but the cup itself is incorrectly labeled “Plain.” The lot code on the bottom of the cup reads “Best If Used By Jul 21, 2026 LO.” The product was distributed exclusively to Einstein Bros. Bagels store locations in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The recall was triggered after shipments with mismatched lids and cups were discovered. An investigation found a limited packaging staging issue caused Honey Almond cream cheese to be placed in cups printed with the Plain label. Because the cup label reads “Plain” with no mention of almonds or tree nuts, anyone with a tree nut allergy would have no way of knowing the product contained almonds, a major food allergen. The FDA warns this poses a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Schreiber Foods confirmed the packaging issue was contained to this single lot and has since been corrected.
What Should You Do?
If you purchased Einstein Bros. Bagels Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread and your cup is labeled “Plain” but the lid says “Honey Almond,” do not consume it, particularly if you or anyone in your household has a tree nut or almond allergy. Check the lot code on the bottom of the cup for “Jul 21, 2026 LO” to confirm the product is part of this recall. Return it to the Einstein Bros. Bagels location where you purchased it for a full refund. For questions, visit einsteinbros.com/contact.
