5,500 Power Strips Sold On Amazon Recalled Over Fire Hazard

Product Recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled approximately 5,500 CCCEI-branded power strips sold on Amazon after two reports of the products sparking and melting, a defect that could escalate into a fire capable of causing serious injury or death. The recall was announced in March 2026. No fires or injuries have been reported to date. The CPSC has urged consumers to stop using the affected power strips immediately.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recalled products are CCCEI-branded power strips with 6-foot, 10-foot, and 15-foot power cords. Each strip has a black metal enclosure with six receptacles made of black plastic, with individual on/off switches for each receptacle. A white label on the back reads “Relocatable Power Taps” and notes the product was made in China. The power strips were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from April 2024 through January 2026 for between $23 and $30. Approximately 5,500 units were sold in total.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The CCCEI power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection — a critical safety mechanism that prevents overheating when a power strip is drawing too much electrical load. Without this protection, overloading the strip can cause it to overheat, spark, or catch fire. If a fire starts, it poses a risk of serious injury or death from burns and smoke inhalation. Middle Way Electronics has received two confirmed reports of the strips sparking and melting. An important note: the CPSC initially issued a Product Safety Warning in March 2026 because Middle Way Electronics had not agreed to an acceptable recall at that time. Consumers should not wait for the manufacturer to contact them — the CPSC is directing all affected purchasers to act now.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the CCCEI power strips immediately, unplug them and do not use them again. Contact Middle Way Electronics for a full refund. If you purchased the product on Amazon, you may also be able to initiate a refund through your Amazon order history. To verify whether your power strip is included in this recall or to report a problem, visit cpsc.gov or call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772. Do not discard recalled products in regular household trash, contact your retailer or the manufacturer to arrange return.
