David Peyser Sportswear, doing business as 32 Degrees, has recalled approximately 207,806 pairs of 32 Degrees HEAT heated socks sold exclusively at Costco after the socks were found to pose a burn hazard when worn during high-intensity activities. The recall was announced April 23, 2026. Fourteen heat-related incidents have been reported, including 13 cases of first- or second-degree burns. Costco is directly notifying members who purchased the socks and offering a full refund.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers all 32 Degrees HEAT heated socks sold in black in sizes medium, large, and extra large. The socks come with a rechargeable battery pack, and “32° HEAT” appears on the battery pack casing, battery pack packaging, user manual, and exterior retail packaging. The affected Costco item numbers are 1872150 (in-store), and 1913659, 1913660, and 1913661 (Costco.com). The socks were sold exclusively at Costco stores and Costco.com — not through any other retailers — from August 2025 through March 2026 for between $30 and $46. All 32 Degrees HEAT heated socks purchased from Costco during this period are included in the recall, regardless of size.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
When the recalled heated socks are worn during high-intensity physical activity, the combination of heat generated by the battery-powered heating elements, excessive friction, moisture, and pressure can cause burns to the wearer’s feet. Fourteen incidents have been reported to the CPSC, with 13 confirmed cases of first- or second-degree burns. First-degree burns cause redness and pain; second-degree burns are more serious, affecting deeper layers of skin and potentially requiring medical treatment. The CPSC has not specified whether the root cause is the battery pack, the heating element design, or the interaction of both under high-exertion conditions.
What Should You Do?
Stop wearing the recalled heated socks immediately. Bring the socks — and both battery packs if available — to any Costco warehouse location for a full refund. If you received the socks as a gift, contact the purchaser, who should have received a Costco notification, or simply return the socks to any Costco location directly.
