Why Was This Product Recalled?
Straus Family Creamery discovered the potential presence of foreign metal material in a limited number of production runs. The specific source has not been publicly disclosed. Metal fragments in food pose serious risks including lacerations to the mouth, throat, and digestive system, broken teeth, choking, and internal injury — hazards that are particularly serious for children and older adults. The FDA does not set a minimum fragment size below which metal in food is considered safe — any confirmed or suspected metal contamination triggers recall protocol regardless of whether injuries have occurred. The recall is limited to specific production runs — other Straus products are not affected. Straus says it is working with retailers to remove affected products from shelves.
