Why Was This Product Recalled?
This recall is part of the growing California Dairies supply chain contamination now affecting eight different products. California Dairies, Inc. recalled its bulk dry milk powder over potential Salmonella contamination. That milk powder was supplied to a third-party seasoning blend manufacturer, whose seasoning was then used in Champion Foods‘ cheese bread production. Routine testing by the seasoning manufacturer showed the batches tested negative for Salmonella before use — the recall is precautionary. Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps, and can be fatal in young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. This is now the eighth product in the California Dairies recall chain, which has previously affected Ghirardelli beverage mixes, Utz chips, Aldi and Walmart frozen pizzas, Blackstone seasoning, Kroger croutons, and SKS Copack café powders.
