Target is voluntarily recalling Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes nationwide after FDA testing confirmed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli — bacteria that can cause serious and life-threatening infections — in product samples. The recall was announced June 4, 2026. Target and manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri have received reports of product discoloration and adverse events including skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections potentially linked to the wipes. These reports remain under investigation. The wipes were manufactured by a supplier and sold at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com.

Why Was This Product Recalled?
Customer complaints of product discoloration prompted an investigation, and subsequent FDA testing confirmed Burkholderia bacterial species in product samples. These bacteria can cause serious infections when contacting skin with even minor abrasions — commonplace during diaper changes on infants. In newborns, infants, young children, and immunocompromised people — exactly the populations most likely to use baby wipes — the bacteria can spread into the bloodstream, potentially causing life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia.
