Vornado Air LLC has recalled more than 255,000 SRTH Small Room Tower Heaters after the fan blade was found to detach from the motor shaft — causing the unit to overheat, melt, and potentially catch fire. The recall was announced early June 2026. Vornado has received 32 reports of overheating, including eight fires and one smoke inhalation incident. No injuries have been reported. The recalled heaters were sold at Costco, Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, ACE Hardware, Vornado.com, and Amazon.com from August 2013 through May 2026.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers the Vornado SRTH Small Room Tower Heater sold in black and white. Costco sold the heater between August 2013 and January 2017 under item number 1002889 (UPC 043765008478). The heaters were also sold at Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, ACE Hardware, Vornado.com, and Amazon.com from August 2013 through May 2026 for between $40 and $50. The model number SRTH is printed on the unit. Given the nearly 13-year retail window, these heaters are likely in basements, closets, and storage units across the country — often brought out at the start of cold weather season without anyone knowing about the recall.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The fan blade on the recalled heaters can detach from the motor shaft during operation, causing the fan to stop. When the fan stops, the heater loses its primary cooling mechanism and begins to overheat. This overheating can melt the unit’s internal components and plastic enclosure. If the thermal cut-off or fuse does not activate in time, the melted internal parts can ignite and breach the enclosure, posing a serious fire hazard. Vornado has received 32 reports of overheating incidents, including eight confirmed fires and one case of smoke inhalation.
What Should You Do?
Stop using the recalled Vornado SRTH Tower Heater immediately and unplug it. Do not put it back in storage where it could be used again next winter without a recall check.
