The high chair your baby eats in every single day may be more dangerous than you think. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a wave of recalls and safety warnings against children’s high chairs in 2024, 2025, and 2026 for two critical defects: restraint systems that fail or are missing entirely — allowing babies to fall — and openings between the seat and tray large enough to trap a child’s head. Both hazards can cause severe and fatal injuries.
The Two Core Hazards
Non-compliant high chairs typically fail in one or both of the following ways:
- Missing or failed restraint systems: Federal safety standards require high chairs to have an attached restraint system that prevents a child from falling. High chairs sold without a required crotch restraint or with a restraint that can detach or disengage leave a baby with no protection against falls that can cause head injuries, skull fractures, and worse.
- Head entrapment openings: An opening between the high chair seat and tray that is large enough for a child’s body to pass through but small enough to trap their head is a strangulation and entrapment hazard that can be fatal within minutes.
Recently Recalled and Warning-Listed High Chairs
CPSC has issued recalls and safety warnings against multiple children’s high chair brands in 2024–2026, all for violations of the mandatory federal safety standard, including:
- Harppa 5-in-1 Convertible High Chairs (Model BHC001, sold on Walmart.com) — sold without required attached restraint system; head entrapment hazard between seat and tray
- Rotinyard baby high chairs (sold on Amazon) — sold without required attached restraint system; head entrapment hazard between seat and tray
- Bicystar children’s high chairs (Model TB-HC6900, sold on Amazon) — sold without required crotch restraint; head entrapment hazard
- Babimoni Multifunctional High Chairs (sold on Amazon) — can tip over; restraint system not attached; tray can disengage; locks and latches can fail
- MJKSARE high chairs (Model H-601, sold on Amazon) — leg openings too wide, creating entrapment hazard; tray can disengage
- Funlio Convertible High Chairs (sold on Amazon and Walmart) — entrapment hazard between seat and tray; restraint system can fail
- Costway Babyjoy 6-in-1 Convertible High Chair Activity Centers — leg openings too wide, creating entrapment hazard; tray can disengage
- Graco Harmony High Chairs — screws can loosen and fall out; plastic brackets can crack causing the chair to tip over unexpectedly; 464 incident reports received
What You Should Do
- Check SaferProducts.gov immediately to verify whether your high chair has been recalled or received a safety warning.
- Stop using any recalled high chair immediately and dispose of it. Do not sell or give it away.
- When using any high chair, always use the restraint system every single time — even for brief meals.
- Never leave a child unattended in a high chair.
