Daikin Comfort Technologies Recalls 13,514 Amana Air Conditioners And Heat Pumps Over Fire And Burn Hazard

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, Inc. of Houston, Texas, has recalled approximately 13,514 Amana brand Window-Room Air Conditioners and Through the Wall air conditioners and heat pumps after discovering the heating element can remain energized during a ground fault even when the unit is turned off — posing a risk of fire and burn injury. The recall was announced June 25, 2026. One report of plastic on the unit melting has been received. No injuries have been reported.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers 11 Amana model numbers across two product categories, all white-colored units with the brand name printed on most control covers. The model number is located on the front edge of the base pan on a white sticker.

Through the Wall (TTW) models: PBH113J35AA, PBH093J35AA, PBH073J35AA (heat pumps) and PBE123J35AA, PBE093J35AA (air conditioners).

Window-Room Air Conditioners (WRAC) models: AH183J35AA, AH123J35AA, AH093J35AA (heat pumps) and AE183J35AA, AE123J35AA, AE093J35AA (air conditioners).

All recalled models begin with PB, AH, or AE. The products were sold through direct sales and heating and cooling dealers nationwide from April 2025 through December 2025 for between $850 and $1,500. These units are most commonly installed in hotels, apartment buildings, and commercial spaces, though they are available for residential use as well.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

During a ground fault — an electrical fault where current travels outside its intended path — the recalled units’ heating elements can remain energized even after the unit is switched off. A continuously energized heating element generates heat without active operation, which can melt surrounding plastic components and potentially ignite internal parts, causing a fire. Daikin Comfort Technologies has received one confirmed report of plastic on a unit melting due to this defect. The fire and burn hazard is present whenever the unit is plugged in, not only when it is running.
