Bear Stewart Recalls Bakr Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough In Four States Over Hidden Soy Allergen

Product Recall

Bear Stewart LLC of Chicago, Illinois, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Bakr Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Ready To Bake Cookie Dough after discovering the pouches may contain undeclared soy. The recall was announced June 25, 2026. No illnesses have been reported. The product was distributed through Target stores in Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Utah starting June 11, 2026. This recall is limited to a single lot code.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers Bakr Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Ready To Bake Cookie Dough, sold in an 8-ounce blue pouch in the frozen section at Target stores. Only pouches with lot number 2606022 are included — the lot number is printed on the bottom left corner of the rear side of the pouch. The product was distributed exclusively to Target retail locations in Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Utah beginning June 11, 2026. No other Bakr products are affected.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

Bear Stewart discovered a temporary packaging process error in which S’mores cookies — a product that contains soy — were accidentally packed into the Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk cookie dough pouches. As a result, some pouches labeled as Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk may actually contain S’mores dough, or may contain cross-contact soy from the production error. The Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk label does not list soy as an ingredient, leaving soy-allergic consumers with no warning. This type of wrong-product-in-wrong-packaging error is particularly hazardous because consumers reading labels carefully would see nothing to alert them. Soy is one of the nine major food allergens recognized under federal law, and exposure can trigger reactions ranging from mild hives and digestive distress to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis requiring emergency treatment. For those who react to soy, even a single serving of an unlabeled soy product can be dangerous.

What Should You Do?

If you purchased Bakr Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Ready To Bake Cookie Dough at a Target in Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, or Utah since June 11, check the lot number on the bottom left corner of the back of the pouch. If your pouch carries lot number 2606022, do not eat the product. Return it to the Target store where you purchased it for a full refund.
