Diamond Wipes International, Inc. of Chino, California, has recalled approximately 75,315 CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes because the individually wrapped wipe packets do not have child-resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The wipes contain lidocaine, a topical anesthetic that can cause serious or fatal poisoning if ingested by young children. The recall was announced July 2, 2026. No injuries have been reported. The wipes were sold at CVS and CVS Pharmacy stores nationwide and online at cvs.com.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes sold in boxes of 20 individually wrapped packets of flushable wipes. The front of each packet and box displays the CVS Health logo, a yellow heart, “Rapid Pain Relief,” and “Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes.” The product was sold exclusively at CVS and CVS Pharmacy stores nationwide and on cvs.com from April 2020 through April 2026 for approximately $16 per box. All boxes of CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes purchased during this period are included in the recall regardless of lot code.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic used in over-the-counter pain relief products. Under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, products containing lidocaine must be sold in child-resistant packaging. The individually wrapped packets in this product are not child-resistant and can be easily opened by young children. If lidocaine is ingested, it can cause systemic toxicity affecting the cardiovascular and central nervous systems — symptoms can include dizziness, slurred speech, rapid or irregular heartbeat, seizures, and loss of consciousness. In severe cases, lidocaine ingestion can be fatal. Because the wipes contain a relatively high concentration of lidocaine in a form that children might find and taste, the exposure risk is meaningful.
