Winco Fireworks International of Grandview, Missouri, has recalled two firework products sold at Pyro City and other fireworks stores nationwide, just one day before the Fourth of July, after the CPSC determined both products can malfunction and cause serious explosion and burn injuries. Both recalls were announced July 2, 2026. No injuries have been reported. Return both to the store immediately for a full refund — do not use them.
What’s Being Recalled?
Two Winco Fireworks products are included in simultaneous recalls:
Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-Pack — Model RCLR-W8012. Sold in red, white, and blue; 21 inches long by 1 inch by 3.5 inches; weighs approximately 2 pounds; labeled “Hometown” with American flag imagery. About 13,500 units sold from April through June 2026 for $17–$19. The defect causes shots to blow out the side of the tube instead of launching upward.
Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake — Model MEF6096. Sold in red, white, and blue; measures 2.9 x 2.9 x 3.9 inches; labeled “Unity” with American flag imagery. About 87,120 units sold from January through May 2026 for $6–$8. Date codes from 03.16.2026 to 05.18.2026 and model number MEF6096 are under the barcode on the back of the package. The defect causes the unit to tip over, sending shots sideways toward bystanders.
Why Were These Products Recalled?
The Roman Candles 8 Shot fireworks can malfunction so that shots are expelled sideways out of the tube instead of launching from the top. A shot exiting the side of the tube at close range can cause serious burn and explosion injuries to the person holding or standing near the firework. The Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake fireworks can tip over when placed on a surface prior to or during ignition, causing aerial shots to fire horizontally rather than upward — directly toward bystanders. Both defects present an immediate and unpredictable explosion and burn hazard.
What Should You Do?
Do not use either recalled product. If you purchased the Hometown Roman Candles 8 Shot or Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake fireworks at Pyro City or any other fireworks retailer, return them to the store for a full refund.
