Mars Petcare US, Inc. of Franklin, Tennessee, has voluntarily recalled two lots of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2 oz wet dog food after discovering the products — which had already been flagged internally and sent to a third-party vendor for destruction — were fraudulently diverted and sold into the U.S. marketplace instead. The recall was announced July 2, 2026. The recalled product may contain sharp metal and plastic foreign material. No pet illnesses or injuries have been reported. Mars says it is working with authorities to determine how the product entered commerce.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers two specific lots of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor wet dog food, sold in 13.2-ounce cans. The two affected lot codes are 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC, both printed on the bottom of the can. No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are included in this recall. The product is distributed nationwide and may have entered various retail channels through the fraudulent diversion.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
These two lots had already failed Mars‘s internal quality control process — the company identified them as not meeting its safety and quality standards and sent them to a third-party vendor for destruction. Instead of being destroyed, the product appears to have been fraudulently diverted and sold to consumers. The recalled cans may contain hard and sharp metal fragments with plastic pieces. If a dog ingests sharp foreign objects, health risks can range from choking to lacerations or blockages within the gastrointestinal tract — conditions that can require emergency veterinary treatment. The discovery that recalled, contaminated product intended for destruction ended up on store shelves represents a serious breach in the supply chain.
