Nursing pillows are designed to make feeding easier — but the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that multiple nursing pillows sold on Amazon in 2025 and 2026 violate mandatory federal safety standards and can obstruct an infant’s airway, causing suffocation. CPSC issued a recall against AMASKY nursing pillows sold on Amazon by Pretty-Life after finding they violate both the mandatory nursing pillow standard and the mandatory infant support cushion standard.
The Suffocation Hazard
Nursing pillows that are too soft, too thick, or designed with an unsafe angle can allow an infant’s head to fall into a position that obstructs the airway. Young infants lack the neck strength to reposition themselves, meaning suffocation can occur quickly. CPSC warns that nursing pillows marketed for feeding or tummy time that do not meet federal safety standards pose a direct suffocation risk.
The AMASKY nursing pillow recalled by CPSC is white with a crocodile pattern and was sold on Amazon by the seller Pretty-Life from late 2025 through early 2026. The product was manufactured in China by a company that has refused to cooperate with CPSC requests.
Infant Feeding Safety Rules
- Never leave an infant unsupervised on or near a nursing pillow.
- Nursing pillows are designed for supervised feeding only — never for sleep or unattended rest.
- After feeding, always move your baby to a firm, flat sleep surface such as a crib or bassinet.
- Only purchase nursing pillows that carry verified federal compliance certification.
- Be especially cautious with nursing pillows purchased through Amazon or other online marketplaces that may be sold by unknown sellers.
