Bureau Office, Inc., doing business as Branch of New York, is recalling approximately 16,000 Branch Ergonomic Chairs after the backrest was found to detach from the chair, posing a fall hazard. The recall was announced September 3, 2026. Branch has received 11 reports of backrests detaching. No injuries have been reported. The chairs were sold online at BranchFurniture.com, Amazon.com, WestElm.com, ContainerStore.com, OfficeDepot.com, and other websites.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers height-adjustable Branch Ergonomic Chairs manufactured between September 10, 2025, and April 22, 2026, with incorrectly installed backrest anchors. The date of manufacture is on a label underneath the chair’s seat cushion. Sixteen SKUs are included, spanning colors including Black/Black, Pebble/White, Black/White, Sand/White, Graphite/White, Light Blue/White, Poppy/White, and Baltic/White — in both Standard and KD Base configurations. The SKU is on the side of the product packaging. The chairs were sold from approximately December 2025 through July 2026 for between $320 and $350.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The backrests on recalled chairs were incorrectly installed at the time of manufacture, meaning the backrest anchor does not properly secure the backrest to the chair frame. When the anchor fails, the backrest can detach unexpectedly during use, causing the user to fall backward and sustain injuries. Branch is contacting all known purchasers directly.
What Should You Do?
Stop using the recalled Branch Ergonomic Chair immediately. Contact Branch for a free repair kit consisting of a replacement backrest, installation instructions, three bolts, and an Allen key.
