WinCo Foods of Boise, Idaho, is recalling two sizes of its WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Trays. The trays may have been made with peperoncini from a lot that G.L. Mezzetta recalled over a possible pest contaminant. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted the announcement on October 2, 2026. Mezzetta recalled a single lot of its Golden Greek Peperoncini after a video spread on social media appearing to show a pest in a jar bought from another grocery chain.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers two trays:
- The WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray Express, a 54-ounce tray with a UPC beginning 2-67173.
- The WinCo Foods Salsa Bean Dip Tray, 16 Inch Catering Tray, a 104-ounce tray sold by special order only, with a UPC beginning 2-67240.
Affected trays carry “Best If Used By” dates from Aug. 14, 2026 through Sept. 25, 2026. The trays were sold at WinCo Foods stores in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
Peperoncini are an ingredient in the bean dip trays, and Mezzetta notified WinCo that one lot of the peppers had been recalled. WinCo says it did not have or use any jars with evidence of pests, and no pests were seen while the trays were being made. The company also says it has received no complaints about pests or illnesses connected to the trays. WinCo is issuing the recall as a precaution, with the knowledge of the FDA.
What Should You Do?
The bean dip trays are ready-made deli items with a short shelf life, so WinCo says they are not expected to still be in customers’ homes. All trays that may contain the peppers have been pulled from stores. If you still have a tray with a best-by date in the range listed above, do not eat it. Customers with questions can call the WinCo Foods Customer Service Desk at 1-800-824-1706 or use the Contact Us form on the WinCo Foods website. Questions about the peperoncini can be sent to Mezzetta at [email protected].
