Cake Mix Recalled With Highest FDA Risk Classification

Cake Mix

A nationwide recall of cake mix products has been upgraded to the FDA’s most serious risk classification after an undeclared allergen was discovered in three products distributed across the country.

What’s Being Recalled?

B.C. Williams Bakery Service, Inc., based in Texas, issued a voluntary recall for three commercial baking products on December 23, 2025. The affected products are:

Swiss Chocolate Cake Mix (95 bags recalled)
Spice Cake Mix (51 bags recalled)
Bread and Roll Mix (720 bags recalled)

All products were distributed nationwide in 50-pound poly-lined, moisture-proof bags. The recall was later upgraded to a Class I risk classification by the FDA, the agency’s highest and most serious category.

Why Were These Products Recalled?

The products contain undeclared milk, one of the nine major food allergens defined by law. The presence of milk without proper labeling poses serious health risks to people with milk allergies.

The FDA has classified this as a Class I recall, which represents “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” This is the highest level of three FDA recall classifications.

Milk allergies can trigger reactions ranging from mild symptoms like hives and lip swelling to severe, life-threatening complications such as anaphylaxis, which may include fatal respiratory problems. Allergic reactions typically occur soon after consuming milk or products containing milk.

What Should You Do?

The recall was initiated on December 23, 2025, and remains ongoing as of February 5, 2026. As of that date, the FDA had not recorded any illnesses associated with the consumption of the recalled products.

People with milk allergies should check their inventory for the recalled Swiss Chocolate Cake Mix, Spice Cake Mix, and Bread and Roll Mix products from B.C. Williams Bakery Service, Inc. Do not use these products if you have a milk allergy.

The FDA requires that food labels identify the food source of all major food allergens used to make the food. Consumers with food allergies should always read labels carefully and avoid foods they are allergic to.

Consumers can contact B.C. Williams Bakery Service, Inc. for more information about the recall and potential refunds or product replacements.
