Cat Food Recalled Nationwide After Pet Illness and Vitamin Deficiency Discovery

FDA

Go Raw LLC has issued a voluntary recall for a single lot of Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried Nuggets after one cat became ill from thiamine deficiency. The 10-ounce bags contain dangerously low levels of Vitamin B1, putting cats at serious health risk.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall affects Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried Nuggets in 10-ounce bags with lot code C25288 and Best Buy Date 10/15/2027. The product comes in beige zip-lock packages with a purple stripe and UPC 6-91730-18103-1.

The lot code and Best By Date are printed on the front of the bag. The recalled product was distributed nationwide through retail stores in Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Michigan, California, Texas, and Illinois.

To date, the company has received one confirmed report of illness associated with the recalled product. The affected cat was treated by a veterinarian and has fully recovered.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The recall was initiated after a cat owner reported their pet becoming seriously ill. The treating veterinarian submitted product from the affected lot for testing, and results revealed thiamine (Vitamin B1) levels below the required amounts for a safe feline diet.

Thiamine is an essential nutrient for cats. When cats are fed diets low in thiamine over time, they may develop a deficiency that can cause serious health problems.

Early signs of thiamine deficiency in cats include decreased appetite, excessive salivation, vomiting, failure to grow, and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurological symptoms may develop, including neck bending towards the floor, mental dullness, vision changes, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures.

If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible. However, pet owners should contact their veterinarian immediately if their cat is displaying any of these symptoms.

What Should You Do?

The recall was announced on February 17, 2026. Pet owners who purchased Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried Nuggets with lot code C25288 should stop feeding it to their cats immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The company has already implemented corrective actions to prevent this issue from recurring. This recall is limited to a single lot and does not affect other Quest cat food products.
