Dog Food Recall: Raaw Energy Recalls 180+ Frozen Raw Products In Nine States Over Listeria Contamination

Product Recall

Raaw Energy of Howell, New Jersey, has recalled more than 180 frozen raw dog food products after testing confirmed Listeria monocytogenes contamination — and the company has halted all production. The recall was announced May 22, 2026, and covers products manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025, plus one additional Beef and Turkey Medley batch dated March 31, 2026. Animal illnesses have been reported to the FDA. The recalled products were distributed in nine states.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers all Raaw Energy frozen raw dog food products with production dates between July 17 and December 23, 2025, sold in 2-pound and 5-pound clear plastic tubes inside brown cardboard boxes with white labels listing the flavor, ingredients, and date code. One additional lot of Beef and Turkey Medley dated March 31, 2026 is also included. Affected flavors include Beef and Chicken, Beef and Turkey Medley, Chicken Medley, Hybrid Dog’s Best Friend, and others. The full product and flavor list is available at fda.gov. The recalled products were distributed exclusively through Raaw Energy‘s website and pickup locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

Testing by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture found Listeria monocytogenes in finished products. A January 2026 FDA advisory found every tested sample from Connecticut and New Jersey came back positive — several also tested positive for Salmonella and Campylobacter jejuni. As testing expanded, the recall grew from 8 lots to more than 180. Not every product from the affected window was tested — the company is recalling all items precautionarily. Listeria poses a dual hazard in raw pet food — pets can shed the bacteria through feces and saliva even without showing symptoms, and humans can be exposed through contact with contaminated bowls, utensils, and surfaces. Listeria can cause serious illness in people, particularly pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

What Should You Do?

Check your freezer for any Raaw Energy frozen dog food with production dates between July 17 and December 23, 2025, or the March 31, 2026 Beef and Turkey Medley batch. Do not feed the recalled food to your pets. Discard it securely, away from other animals and people. Wash and disinfect all surfaces, bowls, and utensils that contacted the food. Monitor your pet for symptoms and contact your veterinarian if concerned. Contact Raaw Energy through their website for refund information.
