Specific lot numbers for the affected products are available on the FSIS website at fsis.usda.gov. The burritos were sold at Midwest Costco locations and are no longer available for purchase. Costco has sent a letter directly to affected members urging them to return the product.
Why Was This Alert Issued?
The problem was discovered by a consumer who purchased the products and realized some inside contained eggs, and that the boxes were mislabeled. Breakfast burritos containing egg were accidentally packed into boxes labeled as steak, cilantro, and lime burritos. Egg is one of the nine major food allergens recognized under federal law. For those who are sensitive, a reaction can occur within minutes or hours, and symptoms can range from mild to life-threatening, including hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, and anaphylaxis. Consumers with egg allergies who purchased this product would have had no indication from the label that egg was present.
