Kobayashi Consumer Products and Gobi Heat LLC have each issued separate recalls of their rechargeable hand warmers, totaling approximately 82,000 units combined, after the lithium-ion batteries and electrical components in both products were found to overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burns. Both recalls were announced October 10, 2026. No injuries have been reported in connection with either brand. With fall temperatures dropping and hand warmer season beginning, the CPSC urges anyone who owns either brand to stop using them immediately.
What’s Being Recalled?
Two separate hand warmer brands are recalled:
HotHands Rechargeable Hand Warmers (Kobayashi) — About 77,000 units. White and orange warmers with model number H163650 and a four-digit batch number printed on the underside of the unit. “HotHands” logo appears on the top. Only electric rechargeable hand warmers with the white HotHands logo are included — disposable HotHands warmers are not affected. Sold at Target, The Home Depot, Meijer, Bass Pro Shops, and other retailers, as well as Amazon.com, from July 2025 through August 2026 for $30 to $40.
Gobi Heat Rechargeable Hand Warmers (Gobi Heat LLC) — About 5,500 units. Sold on GobiHeat.com from October 2024 through August 2026 for $20 to $40.
Why Were These Products Recalled?
The lithium-ion batteries and electrical components in both recalled products can overheat and ignite during use or charging, posing fire and burn hazards. The CPSC noted that both products share design similarities — including magnetic pairing features, USB-C charging, and silicone lanyards — with the OCOOPA rechargeable hand warmer line that was recalled in August 2026 after 1.5 million units were linked to 350 burn injuries and one death.
What Should You Do?
Stop using both recalled hand warmers immediately.
For HotHands: Visit hothands.com/recall-notice-rechargeable. Write “Recalled” and your claim number in permanent marker on the unit, then submit a photo showing the marked warmer, model number, and four-digit batch number to receive a full refund.
For Gobi Heat: Visit gobiheat.com/pages/handwarmer-recall. Write “Recalled” on the product and submit a photo showing the marked warmer.
Do not throw the recalled hand warmers in regular trash, curbside recycling, or standard battery recycling boxes — contact your local household hazardous waste center for proper lithium-ion battery disposal.
