Merkury Innovations of New York has recalled approximately 18,000 Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fans after two reports of the fans catching fire when connected to a power source — including one incident that caused smoke damage to property. The recall was announced June 11, 2026. No injuries have been reported. The fans were sold at TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Sierra stores nationwide from October 2024 through October 2025 for approximately $30.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recalled product is the Merkury Innovations Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fan, model number MI-DHC02. The unit is a portable bladeless fan and heater — approximately 13 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and 5 inches deep, weighing about 2 pounds. The model number MI-DHC02 is printed on a white label on the bottom of the unit and on the original packaging. The fans were sold at TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Sierra stores nationwide from October 2024 through October 2025 for approximately $30. With summer heat season now underway, many of these fans may be in active daily use as cooling units.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The recalled fans can overheat when connected to a power source, posing a risk of fire and serious injury or death. Merkury Innovations has received two confirmed reports of the fans catching fire while plugged in, including one incident that caused smoke damage to the surrounding property. The specific root cause of the overheating has not been publicly disclosed. Portable bladeless fan-heaters are often used on desks, nightstands, and countertops — locations where a fire can quickly reach nearby combustibles.
