Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. is voluntarily recalling 1,589,577 dozen white and brown cage-free shell eggs produced on its Texas farms after environmental monitoring found potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination. The recall was announced July 22, 2026. No illnesses have been reported. The eggs were distributed to retail and food service customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, and were sold under multiple store brand names at Kroger and Brookshire’s locations.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers eggs produced between June 6 and July 3, 2026, with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026. The key identification method is the plant code printed on the side of the carton — only cartons with plant code P-1950 or 0840962 and a Julian date between 157 and 184 are included. Multiple brands are affected:
Kroger brand — Large, Medium, Extra Large, Jumbo, and 60-count cartons.
Simple Truth Cage Free — Medium Brown, Large Brown in 12, 18, and 24-count.
Brookshire’s — Large, Extra Large, Jumbo in various counts.
Country Morning — Large, Extra Large, Medium, and Jumbo 12-count cartons.
Sunups — Medium 2.5 dozen.

Why Was This Product Recalled?
Midwest Poultry Services identified potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination through its own proactive environmental monitoring at its two Texas farms. The company has ceased distribution of fresh eggs from those farms. Salmonella Enteritidis can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain beginning 12 to 72 hours after exposure. In rare cases it can spread to the bloodstream, causing more serious illness including endocarditis and arthritis. Young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are at highest risk of severe illness.
What Should You Do?
Check the side of your egg carton for plant code P-1950 or 0840962 and a Julian date between 157 and 184. If your carton matches, do not eat the eggs. Return them to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
