The Orb Factory Recalls 121,340 Orb Funkee Squeeze Toys Sold At Walmart Over Asbestos Found In Sand Filling

Product Recall

The Orb Factory Limited of Canada has recalled approximately 121,340 Orb Funkee squeeze toys after testing found the sand filling may contain fibrous tremolite, a form of asbestos that can cause serious and potentially fatal lung disease if inhaled. The recall was announced May 21, 2026. No injuries have been reported. The toys were sold at Walmart and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet stores nationwide.

What’s Being Recalled?

Two models are included, both with date code 3102491A:

Orb Funkee Gold Jumbo Monkee — model number 17451. A large golden monkey-shaped squeeze toy. The date code is printed on the toy’s hand.

Orb Funkee Monkee Mega Assortment — model number 41929. Smaller monkee-shaped squeeze toys in orange, purple, and green. The date code is printed on the back of each monkee.

The recalled toys were sold at Walmart and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet stores nationwide from February 2025 through April 2026 for between $5 and $40. Only toys with date code 3102491A are included in this recall.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

Testing found the sand filling may contain fibrous tremolite, a form of asbestos. All forms of asbestos are known carcinogens. When the toys are squeezed or ruptured, asbestos fibers can become airborne and be inhaled. Asbestos inhalation can cause mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis — serious, irreversible diseases that may not develop for years after exposure. There is no safe level of asbestos exposure. Children who played with these toys may have been repeatedly exposed without any awareness of the risk.

What Should You Do?

Take the toys away from children immediately and stop all use. Do not squeeze or disturb the toy. If the toy is intact, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal securely with tape, and photograph it. Email the photo to [email protected] to receive your refund. If the toy has already ruptured and sand has escaped: wearing a mask and gloves, use damp cloths to pick up any sand, then place the toy, cloths, mask, and gloves into a heavy-duty plastic bag. Place this bag inside a second bag, seal both with tape, and dispose according to local hazardous waste regulations — do not put ruptured toys in regular trash.
