Ajinomoto Foods North America has issued a Class I high-risk recall for approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products sold at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide due to possible glass contamination. The recall was announced on February 19, 2026, by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall affects 20-ounce plastic bags of Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice containing stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs. The frozen products have best-by dates ranging from September 8, 2026, through November 17, 2026.
The products were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025, and are stamped with establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recalled products were shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations across the United States.
A related product, 1.53-kilogram cardboard packages containing six bags of Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice with best before dates from September 9, 2026, through November 12, 2026, was also recalled but was exported only to Canada.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The Portland, Oregon-based manufacturer notified the USDA after receiving four consumer complaints about glass found in the product. The FSIS has classified this as a Class I recall, defined as a situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
As of the recall announcement, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries related to the glass contamination. However, the USDA is concerned that some products may still be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers.
What Should You Do?
The recall was announced on February 19, 2026. Consumers who purchased Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with the affected best-by dates should not consume the product under any circumstances.
The FSIS urges consumers to throw the product away immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone concerned about a potential injury or adverse health reaction should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
