Tzumi Electronics Recalls 50,000 FitRx SmartBell Adjustable Dumbbells Sold At Walmart Over Weight Plate Impact Hazard

Product Recall

Tzumi Electronics Inc. of New York City has recalled approximately 50,000 FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells after receiving more than 115 reports of weight plates detaching from the handle during use and striking users. The recall was announced, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. At least six injuries have been confirmed, including broken toes, lacerations, contusions, and bruising. The recalled dumbbells were sold exclusively at Walmart stores and Walmart.com.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers the FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5–52.5 lb. Adjustable Dumbbell, model 8361. Only units with the following serial numbers are included: KK23288361 through KK23388361, and KK207608361 through KK21347836. The model number and serial number are printed on the side of the molded plastic storage tray, alongside the FitRx brand name. The dumbbell is black with red accents and adjusts from 5 to 52.5 pounds in 2.5- or 5-pound increments by turning the handle dial while the dumbbell rests in the tray. The recalled units were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com from January through November 2024 for approximately $100 each.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The weight plates on the recalled dumbbells can dislodge from the handle during use, striking the user or anyone nearby. Tzumi Electronics has received more than 115 reports of plates coming loose — a significant incident count for a fitness product. At least six confirmed injuries have resulted, including broken toes from plates falling onto feet, lacerations, and bruising. The risk is greatest during overhead or high-repetition movements when the dumbbell is in motion. Adjustable dumbbells like these are common in home gyms, where children or pets may also be nearby.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the recalled dumbbells immediately. Write the word “Recalled” across the dumbbell storage tray using permanent spray paint or permanent marker. Then register for a free replacement at myfitrx.com/recall-52-lbs, where you will be asked to submit a photo of the marked tray. Dispose of the recalled dumbbell after your registration is confirmed. Do not return the product to Walmart — the recall is handled directly through Tzumi, not through the retailer. Contact Tzumi Electronics at 866-363-2237, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, or email [email protected].
