Whole Foods Market is recalling Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme Raw Milk Cheese sold at 18 specialty cheese department locations across 7 states after store-generated scale labels were found to omit a required egg allergen declaration. The recall was announced September 11, 2026. No illnesses have been reported. All affected product has been removed from store shelves, but the cheese may still be in customers’ refrigerators at home.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme Raw Milk Cheese — a Belgian aged goat and cow milk cheese — sold cut and plastic-wrapped by the pound with Whole Foods Market scale labels in the specialty cheese department. Two PLU codes are included, both with a best-by date of October 7, 2026:
PLU 57953 — sold in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
PLU 54670 — sold in Arizona and California, labeled as “Belgian Cabricharme.”
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The scale labels applied by Whole Foods staff when cutting and wrapping the cheese did not include a declaration that the cheese contains egg lysozyme — an egg white protein used in some aged cheeses to prevent bacterial growth. A Whole Foods team member discovered the labeling omission before any consumer reported an illness. For people with egg allergies, exposure to undeclared egg lysozyme can trigger reactions ranging from hives and nasal congestion to life-threatening anaphylaxis. This is the second time Whole Foods has faced a similar recall — in 2022, a recall of Zerto Fontal cheese was issued for the same reason, also due to undeclared egg lysozyme on scale labels.
What Should You Do?
Customers who purchased either PLU of Cabricharme cheese with a best-by date of October 7, 2026, should not eat the recalled product if they have an egg allergy. Do not return the cheese to the store — Whole Foods asks that you destroy it. Bring your receipt to any Whole Foods Market for a full refund.
