OCOOPA Direct is recalling approximately 1.5 million rechargeable lithium-ion battery hand warmers after the battery was found to overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death. The recall was announced July 30, 2026. OCOOPA Direct has received 1,480 reports of hand warmers overheating, resulting in 15 fires and 350 burn injuries — including the death of an 83-year-old consumer in San Diego, California in February 2026.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers seven OCOOPA-branded rechargeable lithium-ion hand warmer models: UT3053, UT3056, ZLS-118, ZLS-118S, ZLS-118D, H01, and H01(PD). The dual-sided, rechargeable hand warmers were sold in varying colors and designs, in packs of two warmers that can magnetically join together, with a USB-C charging cable. The hand warmers have LED indicator lights on the hard plastic shell and a silicone lanyard, with “OCOOPA” printed on the top. The model number and three-digit batch number are printed on the underside of each hand warmer. The units were sold on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Ocoopa.com, and Ocoopa.net from September 2018 through May 2026 for between $15 and $60.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The lithium-ion battery inside the recalled hand warmers can overheat and ignite during use or charging. OCOOPA Direct has received 1,480 reports of overheating incidents — resulting in 15 confirmed fires, 350 burn injuries, and the death of one consumer. Lithium-ion batteries that fail can swell, rupture, and produce intense flames that spread rapidly to nearby materials. Because these hand warmers are held directly in the user’s hands, the risk of severe burns from a thermal event is particularly high.
What Should You Do?
Stop using the recalled OCOOPA hand warmer immediately. Write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the hand warmer, then submit a photo showing that marking along with the model number and three-digit batch number to ocoopa.com/pages/product-recalls. You will receive a full refund as an OCOOPA gift card or your original form of payment. Do not throw the recalled hand warmer in the regular trash, curbside recycling, or standard battery recycling boxes — defective lithium-ion batteries require hazardous waste disposal.
